This policy covers two separate Chrome extensions: Igbo Keyboard — Tone Marks & Diacritics and Read in Igbo — Article Listener. They handle your data differently, so each is described separately below.
Diacritization runs entirely inside the extension using a dictionary bundled in the download. When you diacritize text in a field or in the popup, that text is processed locally in your browser and is never transmitted to any server. We do not see, store, or log the content you type.
To read a page aloud in Igbo, the extension extracts the article text on the page you choose and sends it to our processing service (speakigbo, hosted on Modal) to translate it into Igbo and generate audio. This happens only when you explicitly click "Read this page" or the reader button. We do not run it in the background and do not collect the pages you browse.
Article text is processed transiently to produce the translation and audio and is not used for any other purpose. It is not sold or shared with third parties.
To understand how many people use each extension and which features are used, we collect anonymous, aggregate usage counts — for example, that a diacritization or a read-aloud occurred. These events contain:
They never include the text you type, the article contents, the pages you visit, or anything that identifies you personally. Your IP address is used only transiently to enforce rate limits and prevent abuse of our servers — it is not attached to the usage events and is not used to identify you.
Each extension has an optional signup form where you can choose to give us your email address and/or phone (WhatsApp) number to receive product updates and to hear when the mobile app launches. This is entirely voluntary — the extensions work fully without it, and we never take your contact details unless you type them in and submit the form yourself.
If you subscribe, we store the address/number you provide and use it only to send you updates about these products. We don't sell or share it. To be removed, email emmanuel@mexkoy.com and we'll delete your entry.
storage — saves your on/off setting and the anonymous identifier locally. activeTab (reader only) — lets the reader access the current tab when you click to read it. The content script runs on pages so the diacritize button and reader button can appear; it does not send page data anywhere except as described above.
We do not maintain user accounts. Uninstalling an extension removes all locally stored data (settings and the anonymous identifier). Because usage statistics are anonymous, they cannot be traced back to you for deletion.
